About the Project

“Materials Science Ma(s)ters – developing a new master’s degree”

“Materials Science Ma(s)ters – developing a new master’s degree” is a project co-financed by the European Union under the Erasmus + program KA220 HED; It is a collaboration between University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland), University of Zilina (Zilina, Slovakia), University of Afyon Kocatepe (Afyonkarahisar, Turkey) and Ivan Franko National University in Lviv (Ukraine).The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of education by developing a new, interdisciplinary master’s programme in materials engineering in an international consortium, responding to the needs of the modern economy, labor market and society.

The aim of the project will be achieved through:

  • increasing the knowledge of the academic teachers about the directions of didactics development in the discipline of materials science;
  • increasing the teaching competences of the academic teachers – participants of short training programs;
  • adapting the curriculum to the needs of the socio-economic environment,
  • increasing innovation and internationalisation of the institutions involved through the exchange of good practices, joint development of the curriculum and teaching materials in the form of blended learning and promotion of open education.

Intellectual Outputs

IO1

The market and science environment needs analysis

The aim of the result will be to identify knowledge and skills desired by employers, students’ expectations as to the methods and results of studying, analyse the needs and barriers of contemporary teaching in materials engineering and identify possible solutions.

IO2

An innovative study program

Four-semester master’s degree program – each semester, 20 modules will be developed, 80 in total. From this, the student will be able to compose the path of modules appropriate to his/her targeted interest.

IO3

The methodology of the study program

The aim of IO3 is to support academic teachers in implementing a new master’s degree program. The educational methodology will be developed on the basis of good practices developed within the consortium and the best examples of didactics of material engineering in European academic centers.
